FleetCard Rewards+
FleetCard Rewards+ Review
Basic overview
FleetCard Rewards+ is FleetCard Classic with one meaningful addition: every litre of eligible fuel earns your business Velocity Points through Virgin Australia Business Flyer. The network, the discounts, the card controls, and the add-ons are all the same. You’re paying a small premium on the card fee for the points earn, and whether that’s worth it depends entirely on how much fuel your fleet buys and whether your business actually flies Virgin.
If you’re already a Virgin Australia Business Flyer member, or you’d become one for this, it’s worth a look. If you don’t fly Virgin and have no plans to, FleetCard Classic or even FleetCard Corporate if you have over 30 vehicles may be better suited.
FleetCard Rewards+ fuel discounts
You get the same discounts as FleetCard Classic. The points earned sits on top of the discount, not instead of it.
| Period | Shell & Reddy Express | 7-Eleven, Ampol & most others |
|---|---|---|
| First 6 months (new customers) | 6c/L | 3c/L |
| Ongoing | 3c/L | 1c/L |
On top of the fuel discounts, you earn 1 Velocity Point per litre of eligible fuel (unleaded, E10, and diesel) at every transaction, paid in full by invoice due date. LPG and bulk fuels are excluded.
Where can you use FleetCard Rewards+
Same network as Classic and Corporate:
- Shell service stations
- Reddy Express
- BP
- 7-Eleven
- Ampol
- Mobil
- 6,100+ fuel stations nationally (roughly 90% of all fuel sites)
- 6,000+ non-fuel merchants: mechanics, tyre shops, smash repairers, windscreen services, panel shops, vehicle batteries
Card fees and other fees
The card fee for FleetCard Rewards+ is $4.99 per card per month. That’s actually slightly cheaper than Classic’s ongoing $5.99 rate, though the same penalty fee structure applies for late payments, dishonours, and over-limit situations.
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly card fee | $4.99 per card |
| Dishonour fee | $50 |
| Late payment fee | $60 + percentage of balance |
| Over-limit fee | Admin fee + 10% of balance |
| Interest (if unpaid after 51 days) | 0.07% per day |
No joining fee, no annual fee, no transaction fee at partner sites.
Velocity Points: what you can earn with FleetCard Rewards+
| Milestone | Points earned |
|---|---|
| Account active and eligible for first 2 months | 10,000 bonus points (credited in month 3) |
| 6,000–11,999 litres in first 6 months | 25,000 bonus points |
| Same tier, months 7–12 | 25,000 bonus points |
| 12,000+ litres in first 6 months | 50,000 bonus points |
| Same tier, months 7–12 | 50,000 bonus points |
| Maximum total | 110,000 bonus points |
| Ongoing earn | 1 point per litre |
A few things to know about how points actually credit:
- Base points (your ongoing 1 point per litre) are credited in the month after the relevant purchase, once your invoice has been paid in full
- The sign-up bonus of 10,000 points credits in month three, not on signup
- To stay eligible for the milestone bonuses, you need at least one eligible fuel transaction every single month. Missing a month disqualifies your account from the bonus tiers
- Points only earn when invoices are paid in full and on time, so late payments don’t just cost you fees, they can also cost you points
To hit the 12,000-litre threshold in six months, your fleet needs to be buying roughly 2,000 litres a month. For a 10-vehicle fleet spending around 4,950L/month, that’s comfortably achievable. For a three-vehicle fleet at around 550L/month, you’d land in the lower tier.
As a rough guide, 110,000 Velocity Points is worth somewhere between one and two return economy flights within Australia depending on the route and redemption. It’s a solid bonus for a card your business would be using anyway, but it’s not a fortune.
One thing worth noting: businesses with strategic pricing arrangements, wholesale agreements, or commercial contracts that specifically exclude loyalty programs aren’t eligible to earn points at all. This won’t affect most small to medium businesses, but if you’ve negotiated a commercial fuel deal it’s worth checking before you apply.
Not yet a Virgin Australia Business Flyer member?
You’ll need a linked Business Flyer account to earn points with Rewards+ but joining is free and takes minutes. All you need is your ABN. Once your FleetCard account is linked, points start accumulating from your first eligible transaction. If your business isn’t already signed up, it’s worth doing before you apply for the card rather than after, so you don’t miss early transactions counting toward the bonus tiers.
FleetCard Rewards+ Add-ons and standout features
Everything available on Classic, plus a couple of Rewards+ exclusives:
- 1 Velocity Point per litre on all eligible fuel transactions
- Discount on Roadside Assistance ($4.99 per card per month)
- No service fee on Tolls (waived for Rewards+ customers)
- EV charging at 2,200+ charge points nationally under Chargefox’s network ($1.99 per card per month)
- Xero integration
- Telematics integration
- Card controls by fuel type, spend category, and per-card limits
- 51 days interest-free on purchases
The toll fee waiver and roadside assistance discount are small but genuine extras. If your fleet already uses toll roads regularly, the no-service-fee tolls add-on alone offsets part of the card fee difference versus Classic.
Who we’d suggest it for
We’d recommend Rewards+ for businesses where the points earn translates into something real. It’s a good fit if:
- Your business is already a Virgin Australia Business Flyer member, or you’d join for this
- You’re buying enough fuel to hit the higher points tiers (roughly 2,000L+/month across the fleet)
- You or your team fly Virgin regularly and want to redirect fuel spend toward flights or upgrades
- You want the same features as Classic but with a slightly lower ongoing card fee and some extras bundled in
- You use toll roads regularly and want the service fee waived
Who we’d recommend looking at an alternative fuel card:
We’d steer you toward Classic instead if:
- Your business doesn’t fly Virgin and has no interest in Velocity Points
- You’re a very small fleet buying less than 500L/month total: the points earn will be modest and the bonus tiers are out of reach
- You’re already a Qantas Business Rewards member and prefer to consolidate points there: Rewards+ only earns Velocity, so there’s no crossover
- You want the simplest possible setup with no loyalty program to manage
